PM of Guinea, Dr. Ibrahima Kassory Fofana on 10 day visit to India-

1) Prime Minister of Republic of Guinea Ibrahima Kassory Fofana arrived Delhi on Saturday on a ten-day visit to attend the 14th edition of CII-EXIM Bank conclave on 'India-Africa Project Partnership.
2) Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing the conclave with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, from March 17 - 19, 2019.
3) Fofana will be meeting President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, followed by talks with Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

MOU between India and Afghanistan, on Digital education initiatives-

1) The Ministry of Human Resource Development has signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) with the Afghanistan government to work on digital education initiatives, which include many prominent programs developed by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
2) One of the main objectives of the MoU is to facilitate students and faculty from Afghanistan to enrol and learn from the courses offered on Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM), which is an online education platform developed by Government of India.

First BRICS Sherpa Meeting, held in Curitiba under Presidency of Brazil-

1) The first BRICS Sherpa meeting under the Presidency of Brazil concluded yesterday at Curitiba in Brazil.
2) Secretary, Economic Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs, T S Tirumurti led the Indian delegation at the two-day meeting.

External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj on 2-day visit to the Maldives-

1) External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will travel to the Maldives on a two-day visit, with an aim to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.
2) She will visit Male at the invitation of her Maldivian counterpart, Abdulla Shahid accompanied by Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale and other senior officials.

BANKING NEWS 

RBI names SBI, ICICI and HDFC as Systemically important banks-

1) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday named State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank as Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs).
2) RBI comes with the list every year since 2015.

Bandhan Bank to acquire Gruh Finance, gets RBI Nod-

1) The housing finance company of HDFC Ltd; Gruh Finance has been taken over by Bandhan Bank in a share swap agreement.
2) The Reserve Bank has by its letter dated March 14, 2019, conveyed it’s no objection for the voluntary amalgamation of Gruh Finance Ltd into and with Bandhan Bank, subject to compliance with the terms and conditions therein".
3) In accordance with the terms of the deal, Kolkata-based Bandhan Bank has to transfer 14.9% stake to HDFC for the proposed merger of Bandhan with Gruh Finance.

Mercedes Formula-1 Driver, Valtteri Bottas won Australian Grand Prix Title-

1) Mercedes Valtteri Bottas beat world Champion Lewis Hamilton to clinch the title of the Australian Grand Prix 2019.
2) Lewis Hamilton was on the second spot followed by Max Versatappen on third.

Bianca Andreescu, the first wild card to win the title at India Wells-

1) Canadian sensation Bianca Andreescu became the first wild card to win the WTA title, BNP Paribas Open, at Indian Wells.
2) She had a gritty 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber.

OBITUARIES 

Goa CM and Former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar passes away-

1) Goa CM Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday, Mach 17 at the age of 63 after battling with cancer for a long time.
2) Parrikar will always be remembered for the two important positions he held an office as the Goa CM and also as the former Union Defence Minister.
